More than vehicle donation: The other side of the American Red Cross

Thursday, July 30th, 2009

A ton of noise is made each and every year about the American Red Cross. Some people think of the blood mobiles and they get queasy when they think of the organization. Others think about the charitable side of the ordeal with things like the vehicle donation program for the Red Cross. But there is much more to the American Red Cross than just those two things. The volunteer program is a big part of what they do.

All over the country, the American Red Cross makes sure that communities are prepared for emergencies and that things run smoothly from a day to day basis. Their work is not easy, and it is ultimately very important. Though things like vehicle donation allow for salaries for full time employees, that is not nearly enough manpower.

In addition to the folks who work for the organization on a full time basis, there is a huge need for volunteers. These people serve a number of functions and fill a wide variety of roles.

The charity is currently looking for people to help as it is right now. They need help with blood drives, community efforts, soliciting and facilitating vehicle donation, and much more. The Red Cross pushes for more people to donate a vehicle because that is what pays for most of their programs and keeps them running, but they can’t do it alone. It takes a huge number of workers, and the more people who help, the more the organization can accomplish.

American Red Cross driving for Motorcycle Donations in D.C.

Wednesday, July 29th, 2009

The American Red Cross spends much of its time and lots of its money asking for blood donations, but the organization is about much more than that. When they are not sending out those good looking blood mobiles, they are soliciting motorcycle donations so that the good works can continue.

While this is taking place all over the country, few chapters of the Red Cross have been as active as the Washington, D.C. chapter. While car donation has been a big deal for charities for quite some time, there are plenty of charities that are asking for smaller donations that can still help them out. That is where motorcycle donation comes into play.

The basics of motorcycle donation are pretty much the same as with car donation. People are asked to donate their used motorcycles, so that the bikes or the bike parts can be sold to people all around. How does that benefit the American Red Cross?

As you might guess, going out and doing blood drives takes money. Doing projects in the community takes a great deal of cash, too. If the organization is going to keep making D.C. a better place to live for everyone there, then they absolutely must collect funds in bulk. If car donation is too much for people, then maybe they are willing to send a chopper to the Red Cross, since it can bring big returns to the bottom line, too. The tax benefits are the same, and it is another way to get involved in helping Washington become a better place for everyone.

Why is American Red Cross car donation a good idea?

Monday, July 27th, 2009

Behind every big decision, there is a big decision making process. This is especially true when we are talking about expensive, valuable items. Though your old, used clunker might not be the best looking thing on the new vehicle lot, it still has some excellent value. So why is it a good idea to just give that thing up to charity?

The answer, of course, has everything to do with the return that you get on that donation. A car donation should typically be with no strings attached, but that is absolutely not the case when you give something to the Red Cross. Though you are certainly giving up your vehicle just to help, you will be getting some positive residuals on the back end just the same.

Car donation is a good idea because, in addition to the good feeling that you get from helping the local community, you also get the positive side effects on your tax return. You can write off the vehicle donation for a substantial amount, which will save you when it comes time to file those taxes.

That is especially nice right now, when people really need money in these tough financial times. This type of win-win situation is what charity donation is all about, and the Red Cross clearly understands that. They want you to get as much out of it as you possibly can, and they obviously get the positive effects of more financial support, as well. When everyone wins, it’s the type of thing you need to be open to.

Car donation powers American Red Cross emergency efforts

Sunday, July 26th, 2009

When emergency time rolls around, the first people who everyone looks to for help is the American Red Cross. They are first on the scene to provide big time help for big time situations, but where in the world does all of the money come from to make it happen? How does the American Red Cross continue to keep blood in high supply and keep themselves ready for any and everything? It is all about car donation.

Since money does not grow on trees and you can’t fight emergencies without money, car donation is what fills the void for the American Red Cross and organizations like it. When people don’t need their cars anymore, the charity is willing to make it worth their while to make some sort of donation.

And simply donating a car isn’t the only way to help, either. People with car parts at their disposal can donate those, as well. The Red Cross will take those items and sell them for the best price possible, using the proceeds to power community efforts. In this type of situation, everyone wins.

The cool thing about American Red Cross car donation is that even the people giving away their vehicle are getting something out of the experience. In addition to getting the good feeling of helping the community that happens when you donate a car, people get some very real financial benefits on top of that. Tax breaks and having the vehicle towed away for free are two of the ways that people get some help for their bottom line.

Alternatives to vehicle donation: Boat donation

Friday, July 24th, 2009

One of the things that sets the American Red Cross apart from other charities is that they provide people with lots and lots of ways to get involved. While many charitable organizations have programs that either fit or don’t fit, the American Red Cross is always up for molding their programs to the needs of people who want to help. That is what the boat donation program is all about.

As you might know, car donation is one of the ways that the organization makes the most of its money. They sell those donated cars for a good price and from that, they can help the community in a time of dire need. But what if someone can’t donate a car? Boat donation could be an option.

The way that it works might seem familiar to those who have worked with the American Red Cross before. Boat donation is a simple spin-off of the car donation program that has become the life blood of many charities. For instance, if you have a boat that you no longer have use for, and it’s just taking up space in your back yard, then they will come and get it. Ultimately, you reap the tax benefits, and the Red Cross gets a hold of the proceeds from the sale.

For many people, donating a boat could be a lot easier than coming out and giving up a car. The value is certainly less, so the Red Cross does not benefit as much, but they will take whatever help they can get at this point in time.

American Red Cross looking to promote car donation for DC chapters

Thursday, July 23rd, 2009

The Washington, D.C. chapter of the American Red Cross is putting together more and more events to help out the community this summer. With kids having more time on their hands and other individuals also being more available, programs at the American Red Cross are heating up. But as many people have found out, these programs don’t pay for themselves. Because of this, the American Red Cross is looking for more car donations in D.C.

What is the benefit of car donation for individuals who are looking to make a contribution? That is the question that many people are asking around D.C. right now.

The answer to that question is a simple one, and it is the focus of the new marketing campaigns for the charity. Car donation is about helping the American Red Cross do good things in the community, but it also comes with many benefits to those doing the donating.

The tax benefits are the most well known positive bi-product of the donation process, but there are other reasons to give it a try, as well. One of those is the lost cost of moving a car out of your own yard. If there is an eye sore sitting there, it can be expensive to have that vehicle towed from the property. With the car donation process, the car is removed for you, as the expense of the American Red Cross. This is something that many people don’t know, and it is what the charity is championing this summer at its D.C. chapter.

Car donation heats up during the summer

Wednesday, July 22nd, 2009

All over the country, American Red Cross is pumping up their efforts in the way of car donation. Summer is an especially hot time for donation-takers, as the pace slows a little bit and people have more time for charitable acts. Even though school might be out, the communities that the Red Cross serves still need just as much as ever. For that reason, car donation is still incredibly necessary.

One of the things that sets American Red Cross apart from other charities is that they spend more time and more money marketing themselves than almost any other charity out there. This is done because they understand that more visibility will give them more donations and allow them a chance to help more individuals.

The marketing effort this summer has turned almost completely to compelling individuals to donate a car. Though the charity does much more than that and has all sorts of other ways that they raise money, car donation is what gives them the most money in the shortest amount of time, and that is what they are desperate for.

The majority of marketing efforts have dealt with informing people of both the process and of exactly how car donation can help the everyday guy with his finances. This summer, the economy is still hurting pretty bad, so the need for economic improvement is still out there for many people. Car donation can and will give individuals the tax relief that they need, which is something that American Red Cross is especially stressing.

The Destiny of a Donated Car

Thursday, July 9th, 2009

Usually, when you read about car donation you always get the perspectives of the donor and the receiving charity. Have you ever thought about seeing the donation process through the car’s point of view? Probably not. After all, no one wants to watch a documentary, beginning to end, of a regular vehicle being transported. Unless it’s an Italian exotic, there’s no fun in watching a car sit idle without being driven. So what’s the point in learning about the donation process from a car’s perspective? It may not be as mundane as you think. There are many paths that a donated car can follow.

As the car sits in the donors driveway awaiting to be picked up, within 24 hours a tow truck comes and takes it away to the targeted charity (i.e. Goodwill Industries, American Red Cross). The towing of the vehicle doesn’t cost the donor a thing. From here, there are many places a car may end up after it is received by the charity. After a thorough inspection by the receiving charity… The car could end up at someone’s house to provide much needed transportation, it’s parts may be sold to replace missing pieces on another car or it may be sold at an auction to help fund a job placement program.

Which path will your car take? It’s actually not hard to tell if you look at the condition of your vehicle. If it’s an old clunker then chances are it will be taken apart and it’s pieces will be sold separately. If it’s in good running condition then it will likely either be donated to a family in need of transportation or sold at an auction. Regardless of what path awaits your vehicle, you can rest assured knowing that your car donation will indeed benefit someone in need.
