One way that many individuals are helping out in today’s not-so-great economy is by donating vehicles. There are many Goodwill® charities that accept the donations, and the cars, trucks, boats, etc. are sold at auctions. The proceeds go toward charitable programs and services that strive to bring positive changes to small towns and cities all across America.
How do vehicle donation programs work, though? How does one go about donating his or her car, truck, SUV, or motorcycle?
Here are a few steps that make the procedure easy.
1. Determine what type of vehicle to donate. Goodwill charities® accept: cars, trucks, SUV’s, motorcycles, boats, aircrafts, yachts, farm equipment, RV’s, and basically anything else that runs or has wheels.
2. Choose the charity to donate a vehicle to. Those wishing to donate need to choose a cause that they want to give to. Whether they want to bring aid to children in need, support animal rights causes, or help the less fortunate, there are plenty of programs out there for each.
3. Determine the donated vehicle’s value. Guessing isn’t allowed these days, thanks to the latest tax law by the IRS. Instead, all one has to do is ensure that the vehicle is in working condition, donate it, and wait for a copy of the receipt.
4. Get a copy of the title and arrange for pick up. Normally, the organization will arrange for the donated vehicle to be picked up, and all the donator has to do is provide the Goodwill® organization with proof of ownership.
5. Get the tax benefit. After the sale, the charity will provide the donator with the receipt. From there, all the caring individual has to do is look over the relevant IRS information on getting the tax deduction.
